How to reach Kedarnath from anywhere in India

Kedarnath Temple is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and holds great religious significance for Hindus. The temple is built in the North Indian style of architecture, using large, intricately carved grey stones. The temple complex also includes several smaller temples, shrines, and samadhis. The temple remains closed during winter due to heavy snowfall and reopens in April-May every year. Despite facing natural calamities like flash floods in 2013, the temple continues to attract millions of devotees from all over the world, who seek blessings and spiritual solace from Lord Shiva.

By Road: 

To reach Kedarnath Temple by road, you first need to reach the town of Gaurikund, which is the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath. Gaurikund is located about 209 km from Rishikesh, and you can reach there by hiring a taxi or taking a bus.

From Gaurikund, you need to trek for about 16 km to reach Kedarnath Temple. The trek is difficult and can take 6-7 hours to complete, depending on your fitness level and the weather conditions. Alternatively, you can also hire a pony or a palanquin to reach Kedarnath Temple.

During the peak season, from May to June and September to October, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) operates regular bus services from Rishikesh to Gaurikund. You can also hire a private taxi from Rishikesh or Haridwar to Gaurikund. It is recommended to check the weather and road conditions before planning your travel to Kedarnath by road, especially during the monsoon season.

By Air: 

The nearest airport to Kedarnath is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is around 239 km away. From there, you can take a taxi or a bus to reach Kedarnath.
